1 feb 1960 anni - Greensboro Four and the Sit-In Movement

Descrizione:

Four young black men entered the F. W. Woolworth store and asked to be served at its lunch counter in defiance of the policy that black customers could only take their orders to-go. They remained calm the entire time, and found that the store's patrons, staff and the police had no response to their nonviolent actions.

Significance: The Greensboro Four's young age inspired youth activism, which changed the direction of the Movement. In addition to this, it was a demonstration of the potential of nonviolent protests.

Quote: “It’s a feeling that I don’t think that I’ll ever be able to have again. It’s the kind of thing that people pray for."
