In the French colony Saint-Domingue, Grand Blancs (wealthy whites) had their black slaves living in extremely brutal and harsh conditions.
It was on the night of August the 21st 1791, when the slaves began revolting.
The beginning of the revolution was a planned event. Prior to this day the upper class slaves (slaves who were perceived as intelligent that possessed the less physically grueling jobs) had been attending secret meetings where they organized the revolution.
