The AFIS is a biometric Identification methodology that uses digital imaging technology to obtain, store, and analyze fingerprint data. The AFIS was originally used by the U.S FBI in criminal cases. The heart of AFIS is the ability of a computer to scan and digitally encode fingerprints so that they can be subject to high speed computer processing.
