The Battle of Newport was also known as the Battle of Rhode Island or the Battle of Quaker Hill. It was fought on Aquidneck Island north of Newport. It was the only major battle in Rhode Island and it was the only battle in the Revolutionary War with a segregated unit of African-American soldiers.
