On June 2, 2022, the U.S. State Department published a review titled "2021 Report on International Religious Freedom: China—Xinjiang". It condemned the actions of the Chinese government in Xinjiang from 2017-2021. Alleged violations of human rights included "draconian restrictions on freedom of religion or belief, freedom of expression, and freedom of movement".
