In the written stories of Romana's life - though unconfirmed of course - it is said that Mstislav's skill was so impressive with a sword in hand that Hrōþiwulfaz demanded the stranger from the East teach his boys how to fight properly. It was agreed that every night - other than the night of the full moon - as the sun sunk beneath the horizon the two boys would fight Mstislav and be defeated with ease.

Eventually, Mstislav struck up a friendship with Blōþąwulfaz, whispering lies and cruelties his mother was supposedly committing into the boy's ear, poisoning him against her.
