- Lenin returned on the 3rd of April 1917 from exile and immediately began appealing to the Bolsheviks in an attempt to persuade them to seek exclusive power
- The Provisional Government’s policy for freedom of speech enabled Lenin to openly speak against it
- Lenin gave a speech to the crowds gathered at Finland station when he arrived
- He called for ‘Peace, Land, Bread’
- Used the slogan ‘All Power to the Soviets’
- Lenin was promising to end involvement in WWI, redistribute land to the peasants and solve the food shortage. This was exactly what the proletariat wished for
- Lenin demanded power be handed over from the Provisional Goverment in order to install a revolutionary dictatorship of the workers and peasants
- Lenin released his April ‘thesis’ the next day
- The thesis claimed called for a real revolution as the February revolution hadn’t, according to Lenin, been a class revolution
