As part of his preparations for the Siege of Charles Town, on April 12, 1780, General Sir Henry Clinton ordered Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton into the countryside to cut off the city's lines of communication. On the night of April 13, he approached Biggin's Bridge and Moncks Corner by night march.
