8 sett 1941 anni - Siege of Leningrad Begins

Descrizione:

After the beginning of Operation Barbarossa and as the Germans progressed into Russia, the Germans stalled around Leningrad during an 872-day siege that lasted through September. As the Germans approached, Leningrad's population built fortifications and stabilize their defences. The German blockade took 650,000 Leningrad casualties because of starvation, disease, exposure, and shelling. The Red Army faced a lack of resources and the people of Leningrad also suffered as a result, while they evacuated children, the sick, and the elderly. The Siege finally ended in 1944, when the Soviets drove the Germans out. The siege took a lot of German resources and men for only a symbolic win (that they didn't even get), so as a result, the Germans lost a lot of morale and important assets.
