The white Australia policy was that only white migrants from Britain could come to live in Australia and that any other country or other skin colour would not be allowed into the country. Another way the white Australia policy worked was all migrants had to pass a dictation test, which could be given to them in any European, English langue. This test was made so that all migrants from outside of the UK would fail the test and not be allowed into the country.
Perspectives
Whitemen believed that non-white people were not as clever or as moral as white people. This policy was openly racsist but it standed because many white Australians feared that non white people would threaten the Australian society. Non- white people hated this law because if they came to the country in the late 1800's to strike their luck in the gold rush, their family could not move and all migrate to this new land which was considered a working mans paridise.
