911 is regarded as the worst terrorist attack against America in its history. The attack killed thousands of innocent people without warning or justification. Al Qaeda, (a terrorist group from Saudi Arabia) hijacked several planes under Osama bin Laden's leadership and planned to attack the twin towers and the Pentagon. The planes managed to collide directly into the towers, but the remaining planes didn't collide with the Pentagon directly and instead crashed into the side of it and caught fire. The immediate reaction was a sight to behold, never before had people been united in such a way. People worked with rescue parties and supported their community in any way they could, extending generosity to strangers in the face of such horrific events. The sense of unity and patriotism that was present in America was the opposite of the intended effect and has not been replicated since. Some of the positive effects included increased national security through the creation of the Department of Homeland security some negative effects included an increase of bias towards middle easterners and muslims.
