10 marzo 1839 anni - Married women can maintain ownership over their property
Descrizione:
Beginning in 1839, individual U.S. states started passing laws known as the Married Women’s Property Acts.
These laws helped to fix some of the problems women were facing due to the law enacted in 1769 that made them their husband’s property (and therefore all of their property became their husband’s).
Specifically, the law allowed married women to own property, keep their own income, and engage in business.
Mississippi is the first state that grants women the right to hold property in their own name, with their husbands’ permission.
