Italian Marshal Rudolfo Graziani invaded Egypt with 150,000 by orders of Mussolini. The Italians built a number of fortifications within Egypt but they were spread too far apart to be of any use. The British, however, overpowered the Italians and ended up with over 100,000 Italian prisoners, even though their army was considerably smaller than the Italian army. 25,000 British soldiers had destroyed ten Italian divisions and captured about 400 tanks, and over 800 guns with less than 2000 killed, wounded and missing. The viable resources in Egypt were now unusable by the Axis powers.
