Johnny Depp on why playing
the murderous Sweeney Todd
scared even him
INTERVIEW
Descrizione:
There are strains of Jack Sparrow (Pirates Of The Caribbean) crossed with David Bowie in his London tones and, as he quietly jokes, he has "worked with sharp objects before" - a nod to his title role in Edward Scissorhands.
Not that that stopped him from blanching at the pivotal razor scenes in Sweeney Todd.
"They made me really nervous," he admits.
"Everything was fine until I actually had to shave someone, and lathering up Alan Rickman was one of the most uncomfortable moments of my life.
"Alan wasn't screaming, but he was close. I think he really didn't enjoy it, so in that sense I'm sure he hated working with me."
With a reputation as one of Hollywood's mavericks, 44- year- old Depp's role as Sweeney Todd sees him play one more oddball in what has been a career-long drive to play the misfits, rebels and outcasts of society.
