Riley plans Sam a surprise birthday party for him at the local bowling alley with his entire class. When he gets there, he’s shocked and horrified. He thinks they really are there because they want to be, when he finds out most of the kids were forced into by their parents who Riley begged, and the rest are there just for the free bowling and food. Sam spends most of his party in the toilet.

When Benjamin goes in to talk to him, Sam loses it; screaming and crying. Benjamin grabs him by the wrist and drags him out to the car. Sam fights him the whole way, causing a scene. Benjamin tells him again he was a mistake. Sam spits in his dad’s face. Benjamin hits him, breaking his nose.

He spends his birthday evening in A&E where his parents tell the doctors he got hit by a bowling ball. Riley doesn’t know Benjamin broke it.
