June/July – Summer holidays – the bullying from Sam’s brothers intensifies as Riley and Benjamin go through their honeymoon phase again. They go off for weekends away leaving Sam at the mercy of his brothers; James back from university over the summer and not caring for what his younger brothers do. Sam spends most of his time hiding in his room and his stomach aches return tenfold.

18th July, 2003 – The pool in the back garden is installed and once it’s done, Sam’s brothers chuck him in, even though he can’t swim. He almost drowns and when his parents get him out of the pool, his brothers, even Joe, toss the blame on Sam saying he jumped in. He’s punished because of it. Spends the rest of the summer in his room, and starts comfort eating.
