General Douglas MacArthur was ready to counterattack after they were able to push the North Koreans back. He knew that the rapid advance of the North Koreans left them without supply lines and decided to exploit this weakness by launching a surprise attack on the port city of Inchon. The attack was a success and the Communist forces began fleeing for the North Korean border.
