Israel’s is one of the most common second passports among Russian-born billionaires, and a crackdown on so-called “golden passport” programs in Europe means it’s only going to get more popular among the super-rich looking for a quick escape.

Luckily for the Bukhmans, they had an easy exit path. Due to their Jewish ancestry, the brothers could qualify for Israeli citizenship through the country’s “Law of Return.” “It’s quite straightforward if you can prove your Jewish roots,” said Bukhman, who was recently on the cover of Forbes for his struggle navigating Playrix’s split presence in Russia and Ukraine amid the war. “Since both my parents are Jewish it was very easy in my case.” They packed up and moved to Israel in 2016 before relocating to London in 2020.

Like Bukhman, quite a few billionaires born in Russia have taken advantage of the “Law of Return,” otherwise known as “Aliyah,” which grants automatic entry and passports to any Jew, or anyone who can prove they have at least one Jewish grandparent.
