Descrizione:
The Freedom Ride in Australia was influenced by the 1961 Freedom Rides in America. The Freedom Ride in Australia was organised by a group of students from the University of Sydney. The Freedom Ride was a bus tour that went through Western Australia and New South Wales towns in hopes of highlighting how poor the aboriginal health, housing and education is. It was encouraged to resist to discrimination so the students had formed the SAFA (Student Action for Aborigines in 1964 where the president elected was Charles Perkins. The Freedom Ride ensured the sufficient coverage in media because the students were horrified into the conditions the indigenous were experiencing. They were not allowed into cafes, clubs or swimming pools. These issues brought publicity into the issued and influenced the yes vote for the 1967 Australian Referendum.
