Martin Luther King Jr as part of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference had organised a movement to bring attention to the integration efforts of African Americans in Birmingham, Alabama. The movement known as the Birmingham movement, Birmingham confrontation or Birmingham campaign, was organised early 1963. The movement included a riot that was provoked after the bombings on the 11th of May that was targeted at the Birmingham campaign leaders but had murdered three adolescent girls. This movement is known for how difficult it was to initiate change in the segregation laws and for action to have a reaction. Martin Luther King had gone to Birmingham to desegregate the public facilities that were segregated for black people and white people.
