Officials and white supremacists jumped at the thought of arresting Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King Jr was arrested for leading the boycott of city buses. Martin Luther King had been in jail 29 times over his lifetime for acts of civil disobedience and exaggerated charges (driving 30 miles an hour in a 25-mile per hour zone). In this case, Martin Luther king was arrested after being the president of the MIA (Montgomery Improvement Association) that had organised these boycotts inspired by the arrest of Rosa Parks.
