The tensions between the Dakota and U.S. government has grown even more, and since annuity payments are late, the Dakota have no money to buy food with. When four Dakota men kill five white settlers, the Dakota attack the Lower Sioux Agency and kill many people. Most Dakota chose not to fight, but many of those that did were young men.
