The riot at Compton's Cafeteria happened in 1966. It happened in response to the harassment that trans (women mostly) were facing. LGBTQIA+ community hung out at the Cafeteria. The police came and tormented the people there. in response, some drag queens threw coffee at the police officer's face! that started the riot. people threw trash and resisted arrest. This was a big moment for LGBTQIA+ history. The event went unnoticed for years. It was almost forgotten, but a trans historian, Dr Susan Stryker dug up some files. It was a timeline that briefly mentioned what happened at Compton's. She was interested, and looked more into it. It was a struggle though, because there were no police records. So she talked to witnesses and got more information. She helped this event get remembered.
