Boys Don’t Cry was made on October 22, 1999. It is a true story turned into a movie about a transgender boy and his life. It is a great movie because it showcased trans people and their perspective. Yet, the news articles that came out after the incident had horrible headlines that did not accurately represent trans people, and what actually happened.
Brandon Teena ran away from home when his ex-girlfriend's brother found out he was transgender. He moved into a trailer park in Nebraska. He befriends some previously incarcerated people, who later find out he is transgender. They beat him up and he almost dies, but escapes. His girlfriend hides him in a shed next to her house but the same boys from before find him there and shoot him.
Then they shoot his friend Candace, and Lana (his girlfriend) survives but is heart broken. Some people call it “Romeo and Juliet in a Nebraska Trailer Park. The next year, 2000, it won a couple Oscars.
