Noted fascist Luis Carrero Blanco was killed in a bombing by Basque extremists in the ETA. Blanco's death actually served to had wide ranging consequences, as his death left succession to Franco wide open, and the extreme senescence of most of the loyalists in the FET-JONS meant that Juan-Carlos' road to becoming head of state was wide open. This would eventually result in the liberalization of Spain and the end of its soft fascist dictatorship in favor of a liberal constitutional monarchy.
