After 4 years of Allied Occupation, the Western parts of occupied Germany reconstitute themselves into a state, the Federal Republic of Germany. The FRG has Konrad Adenauer as its chancellor, head of the Christian Democrats, and he advocated vigorously anticommunist and pro-free market legislation in order to recover from WW2 and maintain security against the still occupied east. Later in October of 1949, the German Democratic Republic will be founded from the Soviet Occupation Zone. Discussions over unification in the short term continues well into the 50s, and it is not officially dropped by the East German Government until the late 60s, although the FRG makes a point of never officially dropping the policy goal of unification.
