The beginning of trouble... The stamp act was new tax on printed material, which was more than you would think. Angered colonists with as they were taxed without representation. Further angering them was the passing of the CURRENCY ACT, which prohibited colonial printing of money, limiting national supply. The Stamp Act Congress met in response and created the petition of "Declaration of Rights and Grievances" in which they claimed taxation without representation and virtual representation (indirect representation) was a bunch of phooey. This did lead to repleaing of Stamp and Sugar Act, however passage of the Declatory Acts.
