Descrizione:

In his newfound reign, Daoud Khan became strict and harsh with the segregation between the Soviets and Afghan. Writer Anthony Arnold addresses the intricate relationship between the Soviet and Afghan populations in Afghanistan in the mid to late 1900’s. He uses examples of this matter in his book, Afghanistan, the Soviet invasion in perspective, along the lines of “First to go was Pacha Gul Wafadar, an air force engineer who had been trained in the USSR, and who in March 1974 was relieved of his duties as minister of frontier and tribal affairs (a somewhat sensitive post in view of the Pashtunistan issue). He was posted with honor as ambassador to Bulgaria, but the “true” story of the transfer was leaked by the government and soon became common knowledge. He had secretly married a Soviet girl while in training in the USSR, and after the coup, he had brought her back to Afghanistan on the assumption that the old regulations prohibiting such liaisons had died with the monarchy. Daoud’s punishment was to transfer him out of the country. The fact that he was a leftist ostensibly had no bearing on the matter.”.
