Descrizione:

Seven white and six African AmericanFreedom Riders left Washington D.C. on a bus to go to Louisiana. This was a non-violent protest involving all races riding together. When they entered the town they were ambushed and attacked. In response to the violence against the Freedom Riders, Martin Luther King Jr. held a rally to demand federal protection for the riders. After this 50 more Freedom Rider trips occurred. In November 1961, the Interstate Commerce Commission released federal regulations to desegregate transportation facilities. The Freedom Rides had not only gained publicity for the movement. They had changed the rules.
