The INF treaty was signed by Reagan and Gorbachev in December of 1987. The treaty stated that neither the US nor Russia could possess, produce, or test cruise missiles with a range of 500 to 5500 kilometers. This event is significant because the INF treaty eliminated a whole category of nuclear weapons that threatened Europe in the 1980s.
