A week after Hitlers death, General Eisenhower accepted the surrender of the Third Reich. Eisenhower announces this day as V-E Day, Victory in Europe Day. The war was finally over and the Allies had won.
Significance - People in Europe were thrilled that the war, but also mourned the millions of people lost in the war. The US is now locked in on their battles with Japan.
