18 lugl 1848 anni - Equal rights for woman, Seneca Falls Convention

Descrizione:

On July 18, 1848, The Seneca Falls Convention was held. It was attended by nearly 300 people, many were abolitionists, Quakers, or local housewives. The convention organizers presented their idea for women's rights, the
Declaration of Sentiments, on the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Sentiments would give equal rights to women and men, reforming the unequal treatment of women. After the convention passed resolutions in favor of correcting the injustices listed in the Declaration of Sentiment, the debate on whether women should be allowed to vote started. Some believed that the right for women to vote would give women too much power. Frederick Douglass got involved in this debate because it would also give black women the right to vote. The convention sided with Douglas and voted to approve this last resolution. The legacy of the Seneca Falls convention helped organize campaigns for women's rights, slowly more progress would be made on the reforms of women's rights. Of all the women who signed the Declaration of Sentiments, only one would live to legally vote for a U.S. president, being Charlotte Woodward.
