The Great Coalition was an alliance between Macdonald, Brown ad Cartier. These three people began trying to create a federal system for the Canadas. The was to expand the arrangement to include other colonies in British North America including Rupert’s Land and the North Western territory. The legislative union( power to govern and make laws held by the whole central government) would give more power to the central government for making laws and running the country. A federal union ( power to govern and make laws divided between the central and regional governments) would give power to the central government as well as to the provinces to run their own affairs.
