1 magg 1928 anni - The Sapphire
Descrizione:
This caricature first appeared alongside the Mammy. The Sapphire caricature is sassy, aggressive, loud, and bitter. She is always nagging someone or nagging about something. During Jim Crow, fictional mammies were allowed to fake chastise Whites, to create the narrative that if Black woman were allowed allowed to sass and yell at Whites, then they were accepted by the White family, therefore African Americans did not really endure oppression as much as the news painted it to be.
However, the Sapphire caricature started to become prominent after the radio show Amos n Andy.
