1 lugl 1960 anni - Vietnam Conflict

Descrizione:

The Vietnam Conflict was a long and bloody war that nearly defined the 1960s. Vietnam was originally a French Colony that was taken by Japan in World War II. When Japan surrendered, the French attempted to regain control over the nation. This caused a continuation of the Vietnamese War for Independence that started before 1940. The North was controlled by a nationalist government that was led by a communist, Ho Chi Minh. The American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) helped a pro-American government take power in the South, which was led by Ngo Dinh Diem. The U.S's military participation began when President Eisenhower sent six-hundred fifty-seven military advisors and two-hundred million dollars in aid per year. When Kennedy came into office, he backed Eisenhower's commitment and sent even more troops and aid into Vietnam. Eventually, Ngo Dinh Diem was assassinated in 1963. This impacted the Cold War because it not only defined an entire decade, but was one of many proxy wars that America and Russia spent countless dollars and men on. The Vietnam Conflict was the non-atomic expression of Cold War tensions.
