Thomas Robert Malthus (1766-1834), demographer, political economist and country pastor in England wrote An Essay on the Principle of Population. He predicted that the world’s population would eventually starve or, at the least, live at a minimal level of subsistence because food production could not keep pace with the growth of population. He believed that the population was held in check by “misery, vice and moral restraint.
