Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte, later Napoleon III, was elected president of France by a massive electoral landslide. He enjoyed the support of basically everyone in France, and his reign would be marked by industrial expansion, colonial conquest, eventually culminating in foreign policy disaster. He would be crowned emperor in 1852, a position he held for 18 years.
