6 gen 1755 anni - Expelling the Acadian

Descrizione:

Between 1755 and 1763, thousands of Acadians (French speaking colony) were violently removed from their homes, had their properties destroyed, and were forced onto ships headed for unfamiliar lands. In 1755, Governor Charles Lawrence demands that the Acadians sign an oath of allegiance. That meant if war broke out, they would have to fight with the British against the French. They refused. So the British ordered the expulsion of the Acadians.
Some escaped, others died. The most successful settlement was in New Orleans, Louisiana. There, the locals began to refer to them as Cajuns. In 1764, The British allowed the Acadians to return home, but there was nothing to return to.
