The second Emperor Chin of the Kao Dynasty of Shou Lung is crowned and decrees the Spreading of Knowledge, also called the Opening of Wa. This demands that the people of Wa be pacified and instilled with Shou customs. Wa's war-torn and fractious daimyos acquiesce.

The Shou invasion of Wa is secretly aided by the Order of the Snake, but some members refuse and split off to form the Order of the Mouse. However, they are few and unable to garner support. The Order of the Mouse retreat into the wilderness, and focuses on covertly working against the Order of the Snake.

-[Shou] The second Emperor Chin on his ascendancy declares the "Spreading of Knowledge" also known as the "Opening of Wa." Wa survived the Black Cycle in a state of guerilla warfare against stranded Shou Lung governors. Orders are given to pacify and redirect the population in Shou Lung ways.

-[Wa] Shou Lung forces return to Wa and begin the reconquest of the island. At first the new invaders attempt to command the old Shou Lung families still on the island. These families quickly discover that they lose power and importance under the new arrangement. Most refuse to cooperate and side with the various daimyo of Wa. Resistance is spirited but essentially futile. A century of warfare has destroyed the government of Wa, leaving the Emperor and the Great Ministers as little more than figureheads. Distrustful of and uncooperative with each other, the daimyo are easily broken by the organized forces of the invaders.
