Tennis Court Oath: on June 20 1789, the National Assembly (members of the Third estate) took the tennis court oath vowing "not to separate" until the constitution of the kingdom was established. The Tennis court Oath was significant because it signified for the first time that French citizens formally stood in opposition to Louis XVI and the refusal to back down forced the king to make concessions. The Tennis Court oath was followed by the abolition of Feudalism (August 4 1789) and the declarations of right of Man (August 26 1789).
In this event, French Nationalism bagan to change as the pople began to separate themselves and grow apart from the government.
