1 gen 1502 anni - First printing of Josquin Masses by Petrucci
Descrizione:
By Italian printer Petrucci. Collection of fives Masses, the first and last based on L'Homme armé.
The beginning of music printing was a seismic shift in the nature of musical Europe. First, it contributed to the idea of a written composition as a "piece"" of music as a concrete product that can be sold in a tangible, reproducible form. The commercialization of printed music also required middlemen for its dissemination. The long-range result was a dramatic increase in music literacy. From this time on, music would be defined, at least for the educated, as something that was primarily written: a text. The printed instrumental chanson arrangement--the commercialized, middle-class by-product of the high-purpose, high-class genres of the day, the Mass, motet, and chanson--was of decisive importance to the future of literate music and music making in the West.
