The split of the Roman Empire into East and West is exactly what the prophet Daniel predicted would happen to the legs of iron splitting into two branches.

Christianity also split for the first time in 1054. The Western split spoke Latin and were based in Rome. They believed that Rome was the head of the church, and followed the pope as supreme leader.
The Eastern split spoke Greek and were based in Constantinople. They rejected Rome’s claim to be the head and mother of the Church, and wanted a council of bishops instead of a pope. The splits became the Roman Catholic church and the Greek Orthodox church.
