The battle of Dunkirk lasted from May 26th to June 4th 1940. The Germans entered the channel in Calais. The allies retreated to Dunkirk, France making a border to provide little safety until they are rescued. Winston Churchill demanded ship to go to France and assist in the evacuation. The evacuation lasted for 9 days because the Germans were still a threat. This was an important event in the war because many soldiers live were at danger and Churchill showed the kind of leader he was trying to get them to safety.
