Andrew Jackson was an American soldier and statesman who became the 7th president of the United States in 1829. After defeating John Quincy Adams in a landslide election, he went on to establish the Democratic Party. Among some of his developments in domestic policy, he supported the removal of the Native American tribes from the U.S. territories east of the Mississippi which became known as the “ Trail of Tears”.
