The Space Race was a technological competition between America and the Soviet Union. It started with Sputnik, the first artificial satellite in the Earth's orbit. This caused fear in America that the Soviets would have control over space. That control would give the Soviets easy access for nuclear weapons and the ability to spy on American secrets. America was determined to beat them in this race, and eventually got a man on the moon.
