The first Glastonbury rock festival was organised by Michael Eavis on his own farm, Worthy Farm, Pilton in Somerset. Tickets cost just £1 and around 1,500 people attended. This first festival was part of the UK 'hippy' subculture of the time, and a long way from the present-day mega-event . Glastonbury Festival is still held on the same farm and continues to be lead by the Eavis family.
