1 gen 1986 anni - Spain and Portugal join
Descrizione:
Also known as the Iberian Enlargement
After the fall of the Estado Novo and Franco regime both countries were looking to move to democracy
As a means to make up for the outdated industrial and agricultural sectors that were marginalised during the dictatorships, the southern duo looked to the EEC to help the transition
It was no question that Spain and Portugal under their new government would help develop the Union, as the iberian countries themselves already contributed heavily with not only their economical potential but also their culture which influenced Europe as a whole
After joining the EU the average per-capita income of Portuguese and Spanish citizens grew significantly, reaching 74% and 83% respectively of the EU average by 2003
Infrastructure, job funding and urban renewal was well underway in both countries on their way to transitioning to a healthy democracy.
