Austria was divided by the 4 powers and the USSR and USA saw this as an issue calling it "Europe's Korea".
Treaty led to all occupying powers having to withdraw from Austria. Finland and Yugoslavia were also made neutral states.
Showed serious intent towards mutual cooperation between the Cold War powers, it also removed a major source of potential conflict.
Eased the path to future cooperation between East and West.
Made way for the start of peaceful co-existance.
