25 marzo 1957 anni - Treaty of Rome

Descrizione:

Established the European Economic Community (EEC) and the Treaty establishing the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) - signed by 6 founding members of ECSC

The EEC was founded to work towards integration and economic growth, through trade by creating and strengthening the common market based on the free movement of: goods, people, services, capital

Through the treaty, countries agreed to slowly allign their economic policies to make them more similar to eachother. This made it easier for the common market to flourish and ensured balanced trade throughout Europe.

Euratom was established to promote nuclear energy as a main source of energy. After the war, there was a lack of "conventional energy" so nations looked to invest in nuclear energy as a way to be energy independent. On top of the higher supply of nuclear energy, the treaty also insured safe security of supply by continually improving nuclear safety, security and radiation protection.

The EEC and Euratom were the next steps to further politically unifying Europe.
