23 agos 1939 anni - Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact (23 Aug 1939)

Descrizione:

The pact between Germany and Soviet was to last 10 years, stating that both would not attack each other and would resolve any conflict in a friendly manner. Soviet Union would remain neutral in Hitler's invasion of Poland and they would distribute the lands of Poland amongst them.

The pact was formed as Hitler wanted to avoid war with Soviet Union as he knew Germany could not afford to fight a war on two fronts. Stalin agreed to the pact as he felt increasingly isolated from the LON as he was excluded from the Munich Conference on 29 September 1938. He also felt that Britain and France's appeasement towards Germany was pushing Hitler to the Eastern Front and he wanted to prevent war with Germany by using Poland as a buffer.
